The Fairbanks Ice Dogs’ home season opener was heaving to the gills with fans eager to see the game. The Tier II Junior A NAHL team are recent Robertson Cup champions.

Fights break out ever so often at these games.
There are purists who much prefer the town’s other outstanding team, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks, to the Dogs, but I have to admit I much prefer this brand of blue collar style excitement. It’s sort of like comparing an Olympic wrestling match to the UFC octagon.
