Today marks the beginning of the darkest days of the year. In exactly one week it will be winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, at which time the sun will rise in the Interior at 10:58 AM and set at 2:40 PM.
Today the sun rose at 10:50 AM, and the sun began to drop behind the mountains at 1:45 PM.

Here we are at 2:30.
Less than 10 minutes later we were left with nothing but twilight.
